1992
  • The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Foundation is established. Created as a specific and formal channel for gifts to the Parks and Recreation Department, the Foundation offers tax advantages to donors.
  • The Founding Board of Directors: Dr. James Rickman, Marilyn Olson, Clancy Woolman, Fred R. "Bob" Sikyta, Robert A. Helm, Arlan Stromberg, Phyllis Pauley, M.E. "Bus" Whitehead, Bill Blake and Lori McClurg.

1993

  • The First Annual Foundation Golf Tournament was held at newly-opened Highlands Golf Course.
  • The Veteran's Memorial Garden Advisory Council joins the Foundation.
  • "We Love Our Parks" fund-raising campaign launched - the first major "call to action" to the Lincoln community.

1994
  • Local foundations -- Lincoln Parks Foundation and the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools -- worked on a joint project raising money for playground equipment for Elliot School and Norwood Park.
  • "Parker Rex" Campaign launched, introducing the Department mascot "Parker Rex" to Lincoln.
  • Supported the Green Team, a summer youth employment program for youth ages 13-15 to assist in park maintenance activities, summer recreation programs and playground construction.

1995
  • Land for Schwartzkopf Park was donated to the Foundation and deeded over to the City. It is now a 0.4 acre neighborhood park with a playground and basketball court.
  • Work began on implementing the "Sticks for Kids" Program at Jim Ager Jr. Golf Course.

1996
  • Supported the Holmes Lake Dog Run Campaign. This campaign raised money to create an area for dogs to play -- now known as Rickman's Run, east of 70th Street across from Holmes Park.

2001
  • "Kuklin Kids" Campaign was launched in an effort to strengthen swimming programs, encourage kids to learn to swim and encourage families to use Kuklin Pool for family recreation.
  • Students from Lincoln Southeast High School began fundraising to build a new "place for all children to play together" -- the Antelope Park Playground.
  • Secured a grant from Baseball Tomorrow to help in the creation of the Fleming Fields Recreational Sports Park

2002
  • The Foundation entered an agreement to sell pickle cards to Big Red KENO; proceeds are used to support Park and Recreation projects such as renovation of Sunken Gardens and acquisition of land at the Pioneers Park Nature Center.
  • Secured a grant and provided matching funds to purchase two accessible golf carts for the Jim Ager Jr. Golf Course.
  • Funding for development of Stephen C. Schleich Park was donated to the Foundation.

2003
  • The "Polishing the Gem" Campaign was launched to raise $1.7 million to renovate Lincoln's Sunken Gardens. As a part of this campaign, two smaller fundraising programs were started: One Flower Forever and Paving the Path.
  • The East Campus Community Organization began fundraising for improvements to McAdams Park. The Foundation continues to receive and manage the funds.

2004
  • Supported the "Park it at WOODS" Campaign for improvements in Woods Park and the Woods Park Tennis Center
  • Liberty Plaza is deemed the appropriate area for recognition of the Foundation's major donors.
  • The Foundation received a donation for the renovation of Kontras Park and establishment of an endowment for ongoing care of the park.

2005
  • With the help of Hanna Keelan Associates, P.C., (hannakeelan.com) a strategic plan was developed and implemented for the years 2005-2008.
  • The renovation of Sunken Gardens is completed and the public display garden is rededicated.
  • Secured a 228 acre tract of land from the Martin Family and, with community partners, deeded it to the City of Lincoln. Adding this land to the Pioneers Park Nature Center, the conservancy now spans 668 acres.
  • Offered rewards for information about vandalism at Highlands Golf Course, Jim Ager Junior Golf Course and to the Cupid statue in the Antelope Rose Garden.

2006
  • Asked to join Gatekeepers, along with 3 other prominent foundations, to help raise awareness of planned giving opportunities in the community.
  • Unveiled a new logo and website.
  • Committed $15,000 to the Antelope Park Rose Garden Renovation Campaign

2007

  • Lincoln Parks Foundation wins "My Community My Choice Challenge" after receiving the greatest number of votes from Alltel customers. The Foundation received $10,000 worth of park benches, trees, picnic tables, and more as well as a $15,000 donation from Alltel

2008

  • Announced $4.6 million Union Plaza campaign to build a 6 acre urban park from 'O' Street to 'R' Street between 21st and 22nd Streets as part of the Antelope Valley Project.  As part of the campaign, the Timeless tiles program was created, to help raise awareness and endowment funds for Union Plaza and the Parks system as a whole

2009

  • Lincoln Parks Foundation chosen as newest matching sponsor for Lincoln Cares, and LES program which allows consumers to voluntarily add $1 to their LES bill to fund special projects not covered by the City budget.  Lincoln Parks Foundation will provide a 50 cent match for every dollar contributed up to $15,000
